EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY

Educational technology is the study and proper preparation of simplifying learning and improving performance by creating, using and managing applicable technological methods and resources.
Technology of education is most simply and easily defined as a collection of tools that might prove supportive in advancing student learning and may be measured in how and why individuals behave.
Educational technology depends on an extensive definition of the term “technology.” Technology can refer to material objects of use to humanity, such as machines or hardware, but it can also include expansive themes, including systems, methods of organizations, and techniques. Some recent tools contain but are not limited to overhead projectors, laptop computers and smartphones.

Newer tools such as smartphones are beginning to draw serious attention for their learning potential.
In this presentation, I am going to explore national strategic imperatives and I am going to cover all the following themes:
Knowledge society agenda.
Pervasiveness of technology.
Education for all goals.
Present future national strategic objectives.
Highlight the broad aims of the various national and international initiatives regarding continuous professional development of teachers with regard to teacher competency standards relating to ICTs and professional aptitudes.
PLE= Personal Learning Environment defined

A collection of tools, brought together under the conceptual notion of openness, interoperability, and learner control (…) PLEs are concept-entity. (George Siemens, 2007:20).

A Personal Learning Environment is  facility for an individual to access, aggregate, configure and manipulate digital artifacts of their ongoing learning experiences. (Ron Lubensky, 2006).
Personal Learning Environment (PLE), are systems that help learners take control of and manage their own learning. This includes providing support for learners to set their own learning goals, manage their learning; managing both content and process, communicate with others in the process of learning and thereby achieve learning goals. A PLE  maybe composed of one or more sub-systems: as such it may be a desktop application, or composed of one or more web-based services.”

Why did the Nazis hate the Jews?

Why did the Nazis hate the Jews?

Jews in Germany often had money and were concentrated in certain professions – many Germans were jealous of this
Jews tended to marry Jews – they were accused of ‘not fitting in’
Jews had been hated for years – in the 14th century Jews were blamed for the plague, 100,000 were killed in Germany
Before World War I the German Kaiser said that the Jews were the ‘curse of my country’
In short, The Nazis message was not new, Jews had been hated by some in Germany for a long time

Jews were forced to wear the star of David so people knew that they were Jews
In a series of meetings between 1941-2 leading Nazis met and decided the ‘Jewish problem’ needed to be solved.

They decided that every Jew in Europe should be killed, around 11 million people.

Jews were taken from their homes and forced to live in concentration camps.

Killing took place by shooting them

Later this changed as Nazis decided that shooting was ‘too stressful’ for the Nazi soldiers
At first the Nazis put Jews into a small room and pumped carbon dioxide from lorry exhausts into the room

Later gas chambers were developed. Jews were told they were going for a shower and then gassed

This was called the Holocaust: the extermination of the JewsSome people who were not killed in the gas chambers were used for medical experiments, for example testing the human body to see at what low temperature the body dies (source ii) or raising the volume and seeing at what volume the ear drums burst. The overall aim was to help the German army in combat situations.

One doctor called Joseph Mengele enjoyed testing on twins who he found ‘interesting’.

After the war he escaped and lived in South America until 1979

World War II Notes

World War II Notes

What was WWII?

Largest war in human history.

Involved countries, colonies, and territories around the entire world. By the end, over 70 million were dead.
It lasted from 1939 until 1945

Causes

W WI and the Treaty of VersaillesAppeasementRise of Totalitarianism

WWI and the Treaty of Versailles

Germany lost land to surrounding nations
War reparations
Allies collect $ to pay back war debts to US
Germany pays $57 trillion (modern day equivalent)
Germans are bankrupt, embarrassed, guilt ridden, and angry.
Desperate people turn to desperate leaders

Appeasement

Giving someone something to make them happy and leave you alone.
Hitler demanded land that wasn’t Germany’s and others just gave it to him.
Nations were trying to prevent war…it didn’t work. (Isolationism)
Appeasement just showed Hitler that he could do whatever he wanted.
Rise of Totalitarianism

A system in which the state and its leader have nearly TOTAL control.
Individual rights are not viewed as important as the needs of the nation.
No right to vote
No free speech
Government controlled economy
Often a police state

How did WWII start?

Germany invaded Poland.
Allies declare war on Germany.
Germany then invades France, Belgium, etc.
Then Hitler invades Russia.
Germans use “blitzkrieg” to overwhelm other armies.
Blitzkrieg means “lightening war” in German.
Surround with tanks and troops in trucks.
